Course Summary
The Level 2 Principles of Dementia Care Certificate is designed for anyone working or hoping to work in adult health and social care and for those who support family/friends with Dementia.
It will develop your knowledge and understanding of what dementia is and how to support individuals with dementia. This includes understanding a range of theoretical models and types of dementia.
The benefits of engaging in activities are also explored. This qualification is intended to update and continue your professional development (CPD) and to develop knowledge/skills relevant to the occupational specialisation.
You will have 1-1 support from an assessor within the health and social care department. Your assessor is occupational competent and will support and work with you throughout the qualification period.
What else do I need to know?
During the Level 2 Principles of Dementia Care Certificate you will study:
- Unit 1 - Dementia awareness
- Unit 2 - The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
- Unit 3 - Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia
- Unit 4 - Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
- Unit 5 - Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach
- Unit 6 - Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
- Unit 7 - Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care
There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 2 Understanding the Safe Handling of Medication in Health and Social Care Certificate.
This course will take you eight months to complete.

This course is assessor led. You will be assessed by a qualified assessor on a monthly basis throughout the duration of the course.
Completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 course at the college.
