HTQs

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications, such as Foundation Degrees, Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas. They are an option for school leavers starting their career and for adults looking to upskill or retrain.

HTQs have been approved against employer developed standards, also known as occupational standards. This ensures that you gain the skills that employers want, and employers can be confident that you have the knowledge, skills and behaviours for a particular specialist role.

Financial Support

Choosing to study a University Level course at Boston College can be considerably cheaper than going to university.

Student Loans: By studying a University Level course at Boston College, students are entitled to apply for a Student Loan through Student Finance England. The amount of the loan will depend on individual circumstances, and repayments will only start once you earn over £25,000 per year*.

Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA): If you’re studying a Higher Education course you may be eligible for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). DSA supports students with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and ADHD), mental health problems, disabilities and long-term illnesses. You can get DSA on top of your Student Loan, but unlike the loan you never have to pay it back. DSA can help you access resources like specialist equipment, computer software and support with your studies.

Financial Support Scheme and Application: The College may also be able to offer financial support for University Level students to help them succeed and progress with their learning. This could include a bursary scheme for University Level students, which can award up to £500 per student.

“The lecturers were always accommodating – if I had 5 minutes here or there they were available to pick up the phone and have a chat.

The Graduation in Boston was amazing! It was overwhelming, as I’m one of the older members of the group, I had kids in the audience as well as my mum, so it was great for my family to be able to see me graduate.”

Neil | Teacher Training

“I had a complete change of career and needed some extra qualifications to get to where I wanted to be. Boston College is local to me so studying here meant that I could still work alongside my studies and be at home to look after my family which was important to me.

Studying at Boston College has been a good laugh – I’ve had a great time. Graduating in Boston was a wonderful experience, it was nice to be a part of it and graduate alongside my fellow students.”

Lydia | Teacher Training

“I returned to study a degree and PGCE to pursue a career that would suit my family life. The qualifications have helped me to gain employment as a PE Instructor at a local school. I highly recommend Higher Education at Boston College, the lecturers were very supportive and studying close to home was ideal.”
