Course Summary
The Independence for Life (RARPA) course is designed for students who are working to develop the essential skills needed for independent living and a successful transition into adulthood.
You will take part in a variety of practical activities aimed at nurturing independence, such as basic cooking, arts and crafts, and navigating the community safely. By participating in these hands-on sessions, you will gain the confidence and practical experience needed to live more independently and make informed decisions in daily life. Additionally, you will learn skills in English and Maths helping to support you in using reading, writing, and numbers in everyday situations.
What else do I need to know?
You will take part in 6 RARPA-based learning projects aimed at building confidence and skills to support your learning, transition to adulthood, and next steps, these include:
- Project 1: Adjusting to a new setting and safety at college
- Project 2: Independence and community
- Project 3: Looking after self and home
- Project 4: Healthy lifestyles
- Project 5: Communication and interaction
- Project 6: Preparation for next steps
There are no formal entry qualifications for The Independence for Life (RARPA) course.
The Independence for Life (RARPA) course will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend the Jean Ingelow Centre for 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.
The Independence for Life (RARPA) course is free for those who are:
- Under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course
- Aged 19+ and on an EHCP
You will be assessed by practical, theoretical, and project book activities.
Progression routes are individualised based on your starting point and long-term goals. Common progression routes can lead to a carousel programme, or onto further study on a Level 1 pre-supported or supported internship.
