Course Summary

The Preparation for Adulthood (RARPA) Carousel Programme is designed to provide you with the opportunity to build a range of practical skills and hands-on knowledge in a variety of subject areas ensuring you are prepared for your next steps either in education or in everyday life.

You will take part in 6 RARPA-based projects as well as build important skills to support your personal growth, social development and vocational skills. You will also take part in two accredited units including Food Hygiene and Customer Service. You will also have access to four vocational opportunities to support your skills development and prepare you for your next steps. Additionally, you will learn skills in English and Maths helping to support you in using reading, writing, and numbers in everyday situations.

What else do I need to know?

You will take part in 6 RARPA-based learning projects aimed at supporting your personal growth, social development and vocational skills, these include:

  • Project 1: Being safe at college
  • Project 2: Travel skills
  • Project 3: Life skills
  • Project 4: Health and wellbeing
  • Project 5: Enterprise
  • Project 6: Progression for further education and/or employment

You will also take part in two accredited units including Food Hygiene and Customer Service. You will also have access to four vocational opportunities to support your skills development and prepare you for your next steps, options include:

  • Small Animal Care
  • Catering
  • Art, Design and Media
  • Retail

There are no formal entry qualifications for The Preparation for Adulthood (RARPA) Carousel Programme, with enrolment based on individual needs and starting points. However, completion of the The Independence for Life (RARPA) course may be beneficial for some learners.

The Preparation for Adulthood (RARPA) Carousel Programme will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend the Jean Ingelow Centre for 3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Independence for Life (RARPA) course is free for those who are:

  • Under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course
  • Aged 19+ and on an EHCP

You will be assessed by practical, theoretical, and project-based activities.

Successful completion of The Preparation for Adulthood (RARPA) Carousel Programme can support progression onto further study such as a vocational link programme, a pre-supported or supported internship, or a Level 1 Vocational course.
