Overview

Our Foundation (Entry/SEND) programmes are designed to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They offer meaningful opportunities to build essential life skills, move towards independence, and explore pathways into employment or voluntary work.

Every student’s abilities, interests, and barriers to learning are carefully assessed. This allows us to create a personalised learning journey with the right level of support. Our dedicated team of experienced and compassionate staff provide a calm, inclusive, and nurturing environment where students feel safe, valued, and empowered.

Through engaging and practical activities, students develop confidence, communication, and self-esteem. These skills help them to reach their full potential, both in education and beyond.

Your Future in Foundation (Entry/SEND)

The Jean Ingelow Centre

Located at the heart of Boston College’s Rochford Campus, the Jean Ingelow Centre is a welcoming and supportive space for students starting Foundation (Entry/SEND) courses.

The Centre offers a range of purpose-built facilities, including classrooms, a ‘real home environment’ flat, two computer labs, art facilities, a quiet room, a fully equipped kitchen, and an outdoor garden. These spaces help students build confidence, develop practical and academic skills, and enjoy a safe, nurturing environment.

Hear what our students think...

“I'm getting the support I need. My work has improved since I've left school. I've made some amazing friends who are very supportive which I'm thankful for. I can trust the staff so if I need to talk, I'm able to talk to them. My communication has improved - I'm talking more to new people which I struggled with at school. My attendance is amazing.”

Chloe | Foundation (Entry/SEND)

“I have enjoyed meeting new people, doing English and Maths work, going into main college buildings with my friend, and doing work experience. I have settled in well and am more confident now. I have got better at Maths and working in the kitchen.”

Tyler | Foundation (Entry/SEND)

“I liked the food, meeting new people and seeing some of my old friends who I have not seen in a long time. I wasn't nervous on my first day - I was excited about meeting new people and making new friends. Next year, my goals are to get better at my work and complete Level 2 English and Maths.”

Scott | Foundation (Entry/SEND)

“I have enjoyed working in the kitchen - I have made cake and flapjack. I am better at reading and my writing is neater now, the help I get is good. I was happy when I passed my English exam. I would like to learn more about using money, and in the future, I would like to try the Art course.”
