Course Summary

The Diploma in Care Level 2 is designed for those looking to kickstart a career in Health and Social Care, or who are progressing on from Level 1 study.

You will develop key skills in communication, safeguarding, person-centred care, and health, safety and wellbeing, equipping you with the tools to progress onto further study or employment within the sector.

What else do I need to know?

You can expect a blend of classroom learning and practical experience that is designed to give you the tools to succeed in further study or employment. You will cover a series of mandatory and optional units to support your progress.

Mandatory units include:

  • Communication in care settings
  • Handle information in care settings
  • Personal development in care settings
  • Implement person-centred approaches
  • Equality and inclusion in care settings
  • Health, safety and wellbeing in care settings
  • Responsibilities of a care worker
  • Duty of care
  • Safeguarding and protection in care settings

Optional units may vary by provider, but you may study topics such as:

  • Awareness of mental health and wellbeing
  • Dementia awareness and support
  • Supporting individuals with physical or learning disabilities
  • End of life care
  • Health promotion and wellbeing
  • Supporting daily living activities
  • Moving and handling/clinical skills
  • Infection prevention and control

Entry requirements for the Diploma in Care Level 2 are English and Maths GCSE's at grades 2 or 3 (old GCSE grade D/E) or above.

The Diploma in Care Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Diploma in Care Level 2 is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

The course is assessed using a range of methods, which include written assignments, booklets, posters, presentations and practical tasks.

Successful completion of the Diploma in Care Level 2 can support progression onto the Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care, or into employment within the care sector.

Additional costs may include a Health and Social Care tunic for College, which is similar to those which carers and nurses wear in their jobs. These are approximately £20 each. These can be ordered from the College at the beginning of the year.
