Operations Engineering HND Level 5
The Pearson BTEC Operations Engineering for England HND Level 5 is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) that has been approved against employer developed standards, also known as occupational standards.
This course is designed to enable you to open the door to the world of engineering. You will develop the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making. By the end of your study, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the principles in your area of specialist study and will know how to apply those principles more widely in the industry.
Throughout this course, you will gain expert knowledge in engineering principles, production processes, electro and hydraulic systems and fault finding. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the principles in your area of specialist study and will know how to apply those principles more widely in the industry.
What will I do?
During your first year, you will study a Level 4 HNC. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year if you choose to study the Level 5 HND.

Throughout this course, you will develop confidence in areas such as:
- Developing and applying your own ideas to your studies
- Dealing with uncertainty and complexity
- Exploring solutions
- Demonstrating critical evaluation
- Using both theory and practice in a wide range of engineering situations
Entry Qualifications
In order to study the Operations Engineering HND Level 5, you will need to have successfully completed:
- An MMP profile on a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering (or a related subject), an A Level equivalent (minimum 80 new UCAS points) in related subjects, or an Access to Higher Education Diploma
- GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 and/or minimum IELTS score of 6
Attendance
You will attend college for 2 days a week for two years, plus independent study.
Fees
The Operations Engineering HND Level 5 will cost ยฃ7100 per year.

How Will I Be Assessed
Assessment is via both coursework and practical examinations, including presentations and group discussions.
The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments, which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Where Could It Lead?
The Pearson HND courses are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers specialisms. Progression onto an undergraduate degree or further professional qualifications in a related area are possible.
