The Pearson BTEC Fine Art HND Level 5 is designed to develop your skills and ability to meet the demands from employers in the Fine Arts sector and to be able to adapt to a constantly changing world. You will prioritise 'learning through practice' to support ongoing professional development.

Throughout this course, you will refine critical thinking, collaboration, independence, and creativity within an ethical, diverse, and sustainable framework, gaining skills relevant to diverse contemporary applications. Your creative development will include gaining valuable professional skills related to promoting and selling your work, curation, costing and networking.

What will I do?

During your first year, you will study a Level 4 HNC. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 5 HND.

Modules Include:

  • Concept and Development: Develop your creative concepts and skills through various projects and assignments
  • Creative Project: Apply your learning in a significant creative project that showcases your skills and understanding
  • Live Projects: Work on live projects to build your clientele and professional network
  • Personal Professional Development: Focus on your personal and professional growth, setting goals and strategies for your career
  • Professional Project: Undertake a major project that demonstrates your professional skills and knowledge

Throughout this course, you will develop confidence in areas such as:

  • Developing ideas and concepts through brainstorming, research, and critical thinking
  • Learning a variety of fine art approaches paired with a historical and theoretical foundation to encourage debate and reimagine the future of fine art practice
  • Learning how to contextualise your work and think practically about the audience while exploring collaborative, collective and socially engaged approaches
  • Working with external agencies and clients, gaining professional experience and networking opportunities
  • Developing business skills, such as sales and promotion, growing your audience, curation, contracts, costing jobs and presenting your outcomes
  • Organising and presenting your work for exhibitions, learning how to curate and display art effectively

In order to study the Fine Art HND Level 5, you will need to have successfully completed:

  • An MMP at Level 3 in a related subject, or Access to Higher Education qualification, or an A Level equivalent (minimum 80 new UCAS points) in related subjects
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 and/or minimum IELTS score of 6

You can also be considered to study the Level 5 HND as a one-year remote top-up if you already hold a relevant Level 4 qualification.

You will attend college for 2-3 days a week for two years, plus approximately 24 hours of independent study per week.

The Fine Art HND Level 5 will cost ยฃ7100 per year.

Assessment is via course work which includes essays, reports, practical observations and presentations.

The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments, which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

The Pearson HND courses are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers specialisms. Progression onto an undergraduate degree or further professional qualifications in a related area are possible.
