Course Summary

The Level 2 Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills is designed to help you gain a dynamic understanding of the rapidly growing digital technologies industry, preparing you with skills that are highly valued by employers.

From understanding the core principles of computer programming to designing and creating your own interactive website, you will gain practical insight into both the technical and developmental sides of the IT sector. You will also explore how new and emerging digital technologies influence business operations and understand the critical role of IT technical support in diagnosing and repairing system faults.

Throughout the course, you will build practical and transferable skills by engaging in real-world scenarios, such as planning, developing, and testing a 2D or 3D computer game prototype. With a strong emphasis on problem-solving and professional practice, you will learn how to operate effectively within one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world.

What else do I need to know?

During the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills you will study a series of units that will prepare you for a range of careers in the digital and creative industries, including:

  • Digital skills career progression
  • Computer programming
  • Games design and development
  • Website design and development
  • IT technical support
  • Exloring new and emerging digital technologies

The entry requirements for the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills are four GCSEs at grades 3 or above (old GCSE grade D or above) including English and Maths, or by the completion of the Level 1 Diploma in IT.

The Level 2 Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills will take you one year to complete. You will attend college at our Rochford Campus in Boston for 3-4 days per week plus independent study.

This course is free if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

You will be assessed through delivery of a portfolio of evidence. This includes practical project work, written reports, and presentations. Assessment is focused on applied, vocational learning, and the qualification is awarded as a pass or fail.

Successful completion of the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills may support progression into employment in a role such as an IT Support Technician, a Junior Software Developer or Programmer, a Junior Web Designer or Developer, or a Junior Games Designer. Successful completion of this course may also support progression onto Level 3 qualification in IT, Computing or Creative Digital Media, or onto an Apprenticeship.

We will aim to keep additional costs to a minimum, but students may be required to pay towards optional educational trips or visits (such as to tech exhibitions or events). Some learners may prefer to purchase and use their own equipment also, such as a headset, keyboard, or mouse.
