Course Summary

The Level 1 Digital Technologies Certificate (Certificate in Progression Level 1) will help you to gain knowledge and skills required when seeking employment in the computing industry. You will develop skills across programming, cyber security and networking as well as gain an understanding of the different pathways within the industry.

This course has been designed specifically to develop foundation level skills in all aspects of computing. As we move into a digital world these skills are vital and will support you with progression opportunities.

You will also gain wider skills such as completing Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (IDEAS) badges, which test your computing skills and well as completing a unit covering Robotics.

The Level 1 Digital Technologies Certificate is delivered by theoretical and practical units.

As well as the mandatory units, other units may include:

Your study programme will also include maths and English to allow you to progress and develop your skills.

You can also benefit from the Level 1 Pass Plus pathway which is an additional internal progression strand designed for learners who are aspiring to progress onto Level 2 study. Alongside completing the core requirements of the Level 1 programme, learners on the Pass Plus pathway will undertake a series of stretch and challenge activities intended to further develop their technical knowledge, independent learning skills and readiness for higher-level study.

The pathway is designed to bridge the gap between Level 1 and Level 2 expectations, giving learners early exposure to more advanced concepts, industry-style working practices and independent project work. Successful completion of the Pass Plus pathway demonstrates a strong commitment to progression and helps ensure learners are better prepared for the pace, complexity and expectations of the Level 2 course within the department.

You will also have access to a wide range of additional learning opportunities that allow you to have fun and learn about the industry, these may include things such as trips, guest speakers, robot wars challenges, regular games tournaments and a games club.
