Course Summary

The Level 2 Bricklaying Technical Certificate aims to prepare you for employment and further training in the bricklaying industry.

You will carry out your practical training in our dedicated training environment, learning skills such as how to build a range of masonry structures and gain knowledge on how the construction industry operates, how to interpret working drawings and how buildings are constructed.

The practical training is designed to mirror the skills that the industry requires, allowing you to develop an industry ready skill set.

You will visit real working sites where possible, and may even have opportunities to practice your new skills on real buildings.

What else do I need to know?

The Level 2 Bricklaying Technical Certificate is approximately 60% practical and 40% theory, and your training will be carried out in our construction workshop and classrooms.

You will study different units which include practical activities in brickwork as well as developing employability skills and construction related health and safety. These include:

  • Principles in Construction
  • Building Cavity Walls
  • Building Solid Walls and Piers
  • Constructing Basic Arches
  • Setting out Buildings

You will have a personal tutor to help you on an individual basis to maximise your potential.

Full time 16-19 learner with a Grade 3 or below, must study towards a GCSE grade 4-9.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Bricklaying Technical Certificate are GCSE English and Maths at grades 2 or above or equivalent or a relevant Level 1 vocational qualification.
The Bricklaying Technical Certificate will take you one year to complete. You will attend College for up to four days a week, 9:00am-4:30pm.

This course is free if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

Your final assessment will consist of a theory exam and a synoptic practical assessment.
Those who successfully complete the Level 2 Bricklaying Technical Certificate will usually continue their training to Level 3, and then find employment in the industry.

  • Books – £30
  • Stationery – £15
  • Corporate workwear – £60
  • Health and Safety footwear – £25
 

You may also be required to contribute towards educational visits/trips (approximately £20).
