The Pearson BTEC Computing for England HND Level 5 is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) that has been approved against employer developed standards, also known as occupational standards.

The Pearson BTEC HND in Computing for England is designed to equip students with the practical skills and academic foundation needed for a successful career in the computing industry. This course provides in-depth training in key areas such as software development, network engineering, data analytics, and cyber security. It offers a balanced blend of hands-on learning and theoretical knowledge, ensuring students are ready to meet the demands of today’s technology-driven workplace.

Our experienced tutors, with extensive industry backgrounds, will equip you with the computing skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global computing environment. The course is developed in collaboration with industry professionals to ensure it reflects current trends and employer expectations.

The Computing HND Level 5 can be studied as a 1 year Top-up course serving as a progression route from the Computing HNC Level 4.

What will I do?

During your first year, you will study a Level 4 HNC. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 5 HND.

Level 5 HND Modules Include:

  • Computing Research Project
  • Business Process Support

  • User Experience and Interface Design
  • Database Management Systems
  • Cloud Computing
  • Artificial Intelligence

In order to study the Computing HND Level 5, you will need to have successfully completed:

  • A Level 3 qualification in a related subject, or Access to Higher Education qualification, or an A Level equivalent (minimum 48 UCAS points) in related subjects
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 and/or minimum IELTS score of 6

Relevant work experience may be considered if you do not meet the above criteria.

If you have successfully completed a Level 4 qualification in Computing or a related subject, you may be considered to study this course as a 1 year Top-up course.

The Computing HND Level 5 will take you 2 years to complete. You will attend college for 2-3 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston, plus independent study.

This course can be studied as a 1 year Top-up course serving as a progression route from the Computing HNC Level 4.

The Computing HND Level 5 will cost £7100 per year.

You can apply for a student loan to cover the costs of course fees. You may also be able to apply for various grants and loans to support your learning. Specific advice regarding student loans and other benefits can be obtained from www.gov.uk/student-finance.

Assessment is via course work which includes written assignments, reports, practical projects, presentations, case studies, time-constrained assessments, group work, and peer assessments.

The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments, which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

The Pearson HND courses are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers specialisms in Software Development, Network Engineering, Data Analytics, and Cyber Security. Progression onto a BA/BSc (Hons) Level 6 Top-up qualification or further professional qualifications in a related area are possible.
