You will complete practical and theoretical units and it is ideal if you feel you may require more support once you complete the Level 1 Animal Care (Land Based Studies) Diploma. It also offers a good opportunity to concentrate on achieving your Maths and English qualifications.

What will I do?

During the Level 2 Animal Care Extended Certificate, you will cover a range of core subjects, including:

  • Undertaking Work Related Experience in the Land Based Industry
  • Maintaining Animal Accommodation

There will be educational visits through the year with an end of year trip. A number of professional speakers and/or visitors will be incorporated in the course.

You will have full access to the Small animal Care Unit and both practical and theoretical skills will be assessed here. 40% of your time will be spent in the unit and 60% will involve classroom based lessons.

You will undertake external work experience throughout your course in addition to your normal college hours, it is expected you will study independently to complete assessments.

If you have a Grade 2 or below in English or maths, you can study towards either a PASS in Functional Skills Level 2 or a GCSE grade 4-9. Once you have achieved either qualification, you will not be required to undertake any further English or maths.
