Course Summary

The Motorcycle Maintenance Certificate Level 2 course is tailored for individuals eager to develop a strong foundation in Motorcycle Maintenance, Repair, and Mechanical Systems. Whether you're passionate about two-wheel vehicles or considering a career in the motor industry, this course offers the essential skills and knowledge needed to progress confidently.

Through a mix of hands-on training and theoretical study, students will explore key topics such as Engine Systems, Diagnostics, Electrical Components, and Routine Servicing. You will gain practical experience working on real motorcycles, using industry-standard tools and equipment under expert guidance. This course not only builds mechanical competence but also encourages problem-solving, attention to detail, and technical communication – skills highly valued by employers.

This qualification has been developed in collaboration with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), ensuring it meets industry standards.

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • Health & Safety
  • Servicing & Maintenance
  • Engine Routine Maintenance
  • Suspension Setting Transmission
  • Fuel Air/Ignition & Exhaust
  • Electrical Servicing
  • Engineering - Weld & Fabrication
  • Understanding How to Maintain Your Own Motorcycle
 

You will also have the opportunity to complete the below qualifications:

  • Earth Week – Tackling the Climate Emergency Level 2
  • Introduction to Welding Skills
  • Introduction to Computer Aided Design
  • Introduction to Turning
 

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

There are no entry requirements to study this course.

The Motorcycle Maintenance Certificate Level 2 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

This course is free if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

You will be assessed via practical assessments, theory assessments, and a portfolio of evidence.

Successful completion of the Motorcycle Maintenance Certificate Level 2 opens up a range of opportunities for Further Education. Students can progress onto studying a Level 3 qualification in Motorcycle Maintenance or higher-level training in Automotive and Engineering subjects, including specialised Apprenticeships that enhance their skills and industry knowledge.
