Course Summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Hospitality Management is designed for students who are passionate about the fast-paced and dynamic hospitality industry and want to develop the professional skills needed for management-level careers.
You will gain a strong understanding of the operational and strategic aspects of the hospitality sector, including leadership and management, marketing, finance, business operations, and sustainable hospitality practices. The programme encourages the development of problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and customer service skills that are highly valued by employers worldwide.
The Level 5 HND builds upon knowledge gained at Level 4 and provides students with opportunities to specialise in key areas of hospitality management while gaining insight into current industry trends and challenges. You will have directed and structured input from the experienced food and visitor economy team, as well as opportunities to engage directly with customers and consumers within a fully commercial restaurant within the college campus.
What else do I need to know?
This internationally recognised qualification combines academic study with practical, industry-focused learning, prepares you for employment in areas such as hotel management, events, food and beverage operations, tourism, customer experience, and hospitality leadership.
Based in the new Mayflower building on our main Rochford Campus, you will have the opportunity to implement theory-based classroom learning with events and functions being held within the restaurant and department. Units such as business and marketing will be based and implemented within the practical environments, allowing students to see theory put into practice within a commercial setting.

- Hospitality interpersonal skills
- Hospitality research project
Additionally, there are a range of optional Hospitality and Visitor Economy industry specific units.
To study the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Hospitality Management, you will need to have successfully completed the Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Hospitality Management or an equivalent qualification.
You may also be considered if you have relevant industry work experience.
You will also have GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 and/or minimum IELTS score of 6. International students should also have English language proficiency.
The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) in Hospitality Management will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college at our Mayflower Centre in Boston 2 days per week, plus independent study.
The Hospitality Management HNC Level 4 will cost £7100 per year.

Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
If youāre studying a Higher Education course you may be eligible for Disabled Studentsā Allowance (DSA). DSA supports students with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and ADHD), mental health problems, disabilities and long-term illnesses. You can get DSA on top of your Student Loan, but unlike the loan you never have to pay it back. DSA can help you access resources like specialist equipment, computer software and support with your studies.

Assessment is via course work which includes essays, reports, practical observations and presentations.
The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments, which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
The Pearson HND courses are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers specialisms and roles, including; Hotel Supervisor or Manager, Restaurant or Food Service Manager, Events Coordinator, Front Office Manager, Guest Relations Executive, Hospitality Operations Manager, Tourism and Leisure Management Roles.
Students may also progress to a university top-up programme to achieve a full bachelorās degree in hospitality, tourism, or business management.
