Course Summary

Step into one of the fastest-growing and most influential sectors in the world. Our new Entertainment Industries A Level stream brings together Sociology, Media Studies, and Film Studies to give students a powerful, interconnected understanding of how stories, culture, and society shape the entertainment landscape. Across this pathway, students explore how audiences think, how media messages are crafted, and how film and television both reflect and influence the world around us. By studying these subjects side-by-side, learners gain a unique blend of analytical, creative, and industry-focused skills—preparing them for the real demands of modern creative and media environments.

What else do I need to know?

A Level Psychology:
Students investigate the structures, trends, and behaviours that shape society—from identity and inequality to the influence of institutions and audiences. This subject gives learners the tools to understand why people engage with entertainment the way they do and how social issues drive trends across media platforms.

Media Studies:
Here, students learn how media texts are designed, produced, and distributed. They explore advertising, digital platforms, social media, journalism, and branding, gaining insight into how messages are crafted and how industries target audiences. Practical elements allow students to create their own media products, developing creative and technical skills.

Film Studies:
Film Studies combines creativity with critical thinking, encouraging students to explore cinematic storytelling, genre, representation, and production techniques. Learners study both classic and contemporary films while gaining a deeper understanding of how visual narratives influence and reflect society.

How the Subjects Work Together
Together, these three subjects offer a 360-degree perspective on the entertainment world. Sociology provides the social context, Media Studies the communication tools, and Film Studies the creative and cinematic lens. Students learn how audience behaviour shapes content, how media industries operate, and how film and media texts reflect cultural values—building a rich and interconnected understanding of the entertainment landscape.
