The Level 3 Education and Training Award is an introduction to teaching and training within the post 16 sector (e.g. learners/adults over the age of 16). This is the only teaching qualification that you can study which does not require you to be already working as a teacher/trainer.

Studying this course will enable you to gain the knowledge and skills required by teacher/trainers in further education and the training skills sector.

What will I do?

The Level 3 Education and Training Award explores the key standards required to teach in the post 16 sector by studying the following units:

  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding assessment in education
  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

These units will provide an insight into the roles and responsibilities within education and training to enable you to plan, deliver, assess inclusive sessions and provide effective, constructive feedback.

As a student at Boston College you will have access to refectory areas, learning resource centre and ICT including access to and the use of Microsoft Teams. In addition, there are learners' services, learner support and career advice are available.

In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Education and Training Award, although you must be aged 19+.

If you do not hold a Level 2 qualification in English or Maths you should consider taking them, as to teach in FE you will be expected to hold them.

If you are concerned about the above entry requirements an alternative course available is the Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3 and Early Years Educator Level 3.

The Education and Training Award will take you 12 weeks to complete. You will attend College once a week for three hours.

There will also be an element of independent study, this will be through you completing a combination of written assignments and building a portfolio of evidence where reflective and evaluative practice is evidenced.

The Level 3 Education and Training Award will cost £525.

If you are aged 19-23, fee remission may apply depending on personal circumstances, please enquire with the Registry Department for further information on 01205 365701.

Fees may vary depending on personal circumstances, please enquire for further information.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

The Education and Training Award will be 30% practical and 70% theory. You will need to complete a range of written assignments and then one short micro teach session.

The Level 3 Education and Training Award course will enable you to develop skills in a combination of study through written theory assignments and demonstration of your teaching and learning skills and knowledge through a 30-minute micro teach.
