Course Summary
Our Level 2 (Intermediate) Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of intermediate hospitality techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.
During your Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship you will train in a number of catering skills including: table set up & service, bar preparation and beverage service, menu knowledge, customer service supplemented by units on health & safety, teamwork and documentation & procedures. You will learn how to interact and offer a high standard of service to customers. An alternative apprenticeship concentrates on bar work and alcohol service within licensed premises.
What else do I need to know?
The Apprenticeship consists of several elements, which have been identified by employers as an appropriate set of skills to operate in their chosen job role.
These elements are:
Maths - Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills, unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.
English - Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills, unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.
Vocational Element (Knowledge) - most Apprenticeship include off-the-job study for a technical certificate which is usually done at College.
Vocational Element (Competence) - all Apprenticeships include on-the-job training and assessment leading to a competence based vocational qualification.
On some Apprenticeships, the knowledge and competence elements are combined into one qualification.
The entry qualifications for the Level 2 Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship are five GCSEs including English and Maths and/or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 2 or above (or equivalent).
You will also need to be in a relevant job role suitable for the units within the portfolio.
The Hospitality Team Member Apprenticeship will take you 12 to 18 months to complete. You will study at College for one day a week, and four days with your employer.
During your time at college you will receive one-to-one support from a chef assessor and functional skills tutors.
As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.70 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.
In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:
Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.20 per hour.
18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £5.90 per hour.
21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.38 per hour.
25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £7.83 per hour.
