The aim of the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to five years.

The qualification meets the Department for Education (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

What will I do?

You will be required to volunteer in an Early Years Setting (working with children aged 0-5) for 8-10 hours per week and attend monthly workshops. During these workshops you will receive guidance and support from industry trained staff to enable you to complete tasks within your qualification and link together the skills and knowledge you have learnt from practice to the theory you learn in workshops.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Early Years Practitioner Diploma.

The Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2 will take you 11 months to complete.

You will initially attend college for a course induction with you tutor at our Boston Campus (Rochford).

Learning will take place on Teams where you will need to attend a workshop once a month, for 11 months.

The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than ยฃ25,000 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding this course will cost ยฃ1216.

You will be assigned an assessor who will observe your practice in your Early Years setting throughout the duration of your course, your assessor will offer support and guidance and will use a variety of assessment methods to help you achieve the requirements of the qualification.

You can work under supervision in roles such as: Nursery practitioner, Classroom assistant, Pre-school practitioner. You could progress on to the Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) Level 3.
