You will study with highly motivated and supportive team in our new DTLA building with full access to our computer suites. This course will provide you with skills to be able to progress into a range of computing related careers or continue to Foundation HE programmes.

What will I do?

During your first year you will study the Level 3 Computing Extended Certificate that will provide a comprehensive yet broad understanding of Computing. The structure of the programme provides an innovative and creative curriculum covering the core subject areas within IT.

Year 1

  • Principles of Computer Science
  • Fundamentals of Computer Systems
  • Website Development
  • IT Systems Security and Encryption

Year 2

  • Planning and Management of Computing Projects
  • Computer Networking
  • Games Development
  • Business Applications of Social Media
  • The Impact of Computing
  • Robotics Fundamentals is studied in both years

The academic year is divided into two semesters and students will be expected to complete at least 3 units each semester.

In addition to your course, you may also study either GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade. Guest speakers and trips are run throughout the course.

The entry requirements for the Level 3 Computing National Diploma are Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (old grade C or above) including maths or English. OR with a Merit profile in a Level 2 qualification.

The Level 3 Computing National Diploma will take you two years to complete. You will attend College for 3-4 days a week, plus independent study.

The Computing National Diploma is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.

For those aged 19+, this course will cost: £5421.

Aged 19+?
If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £25,000 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. Three units are exam based with the remaining being assessed via coursework, presentation, practical application. Units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The Computing National Diploma is highly valued by employers and can lead to careers in the Computing sector as trainee programmers, systems analysts, web designers and network and IT technicians.

The National Diploma is also a recognised route on to higher apprenticeships or HNC/HND courses in Computing.

Additional costs include the purchase of pens, paper, educational visits, course specific materials and pay for non-educational visits etc
