During the Business BA (Hons) Top Up you will build on and develop the knowledge you've already gained on your HND or foundation degree in business with a further stage of study which results in a full honours degree - BA (Hons) Business Management.

Covering global and strategic management issues, you'll study the specialist areas of management and leadership. The module Issues in Global Business and Strategic Concepts is a case study of current business issues. It takes a discussion approach and is very practical. You'll be looking at where things are going wrong, what could be done, what would you do?

Throughout the course you'll be using current case studies and examples, and will also benefit from guest lectures from industry speakers and professional bodies. We'll prepare you for the workplace as you develop the skills employers are looking for in their graduate employees, from report writing and analysis through to presentation skills.

The Business Management BA (Hons) Top-up is a University of Derby approved course.

What will I do?

The Business BA (Hons) Top Up will cover modules such as:

  • Global Business and Strategy
  • Developing Leadership and Management
  • The Business Consultancy Project
  • Marketing Across Cultures
  • International Entrepreneurship

Each module will require you to undertake up to 140 hours of independent learning.

You will study at our Spalding campus where the newly refurbished facilities include dedicated university level classrooms, a 100 seat lecture theatre, iZone and an outdoor seating area. You will build on and develop the knowledge that you have already gained with a further stage of study which will result in a full honours degree.

The entry requirements for the Business BA (Hons) Top-up are 240 credits, with 120 of these being at Level 5. This may be from an HND or equivalent Level 5 qualification.

You will be expected to hold either a Level 5 qualification in business, or have extensive experience within the business sector and hold a Level 5 qualification in a different specialist subject area. The original copy of the Level 5 qualification will need to be seen as part of the entry criteria.

Students from the EU need to have the basic requirement of IELTS Level 6.0 or be able to evidence the equivalent, for undergraduate degree level.

For students outside the EU, academic qualifications are assessed on an individual basis by the admission team and the subject area's academic coordinator.

Academic qualifications are equated to UK entry requirements using the UK NARIC qualifications database to ensure academic quality.

Students must also meet the minimum English language requirement which is IELTS 6.0, or be able to evidence the equivalent, for undergraduate degree level.

Your offer to study with us will be conditional as all applications are to be approved by the University of Derby.

All applications are subject to approval by the University of Derby (UoD). In order for the University to approve your application we are required to share your personal information. This includes sharing the application form that you have completed to study this course, and in some instances, copies of your maths, English and highest-level qualification certificate.

The Business BA (Hons) Top-up will take one year to complete. You will attend College for 12 hours a week.

You will also be expected to participate in independent study outside of College hours. Each module will require you to undertake up to 140 hours of independent learning.

The Business BA (Hons) Top-up will cost £7600.

You will be assessed via written assignments, presentations and projects. You will benefit from an innovative variety of assessment modes.

Assessment is mainly via coursework which can take forms such as traditional essays and reports, group project work, research and consultancy projects, presentations, posters, and design of digital materials. There are also in-class tests and computer-based assessments.

Completion of this course could lead onto further academic study or employment within the sector.

If you are undertaking fulltime study you can apply for a Maintenance Loan, this can be used to purchase materials to assist with your qualification.
