Greenyard Frozen Strengthens Partnership with Boston College Electrical Students
2nd June 2026
Laura, Andy, and Chris from Greenyard Frozen recently returned to Boston College to reconnect with electrical students who had previously taken part in a one-day industry visit to the company’s Boston factory.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the experience and highlight the strong partnership between Greenyard and the college. Over the past year, Greenyard staff have shown excellent support for our future electricians through regular engagement, with Laura acting as a key contact and ongoing source of guidance for both staff and students.
As part of this partnership, students took part in work experience at Greenyard Frozen that supplies retail, foodservice, and industrial sectors with high-quality frozen produce, processing tens of thousands of tonnes every year. This gave them the chance to gain real onsite experience as a maintenance electrician and understand the role within a fast-paced food production environment.
The aim of the placement was to move learning beyond the classroom and give students hands on experience in real working conditions. During their time on site, students were able to take part in fault finding, support new installations through planning and execution, and assist with repairing electrical equipment. They also gained experience working alongside other staff and interacting as part of a team.
Students spoke positively about their time at the production site, explaining how the experience helped them understand what to expect in the industry and develop new practical skills. They also valued the opportunity to see the day-to-day running of an industrial workplace.
Greenyard staff reflected on the visit, saying: “Students took part in a factory tour with a strong focus on health and safety, including identifying hazards and near misses. This was followed by sessions on electrical theory and practical activities, giving students a realistic snapshot of working life. Working with students brings fresh insight and helps confirm that the skills being taught in college remain relevant to industry needs. We also welcomed the opportunity to offer advice and support as students begin to plan their future careers.”
The partnership continues to show clear success, with former students progressing into roles within Greenyard. Both the college and the company look forward to continuing their work together to support and inspire the next generation of electricians.
