The Level 3 Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma will be studied over two years. During your first year you will enrol on and study the Level 3 Travel and Tourism Foundation Diploma. This is a standalone one-year qualification. Upon successful completion of the first year, you can then progress and enrol to study the Level 3 Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A levels.
This course is designed to provide you with a variety of skills for the world’s largest industry. You will study areas of the tourism industry including: customer service, marketing, visitor attractions and special interest tourism.
It combines class work with opportunities to carry out practical work, visit tourist attractions and prepare for work in this exciting and vibrant industry. Some trips and activities are mandatory to enable assessment of some units to be undertaken in a relevant environment.
During the Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma you will study units which could include the following:
Year 1 - Foundation Diploma.
Year 2 - Extended Diploma.
An additional 3 optional units will be studied.
The course will include role plays, presentations, group work and the completion of practical tasks.
You will also undertake a period of work experience, which will be extremely useful in preparing you for your next steps in either employment or education.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma are five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including English and Maths.
Or Merit or Distinction at First Diploma level in a related subject or Merit or Distinction at Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject (or equivalent) together with Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths (or GCSE equivalent).
The Travel and Tourism Extended Diploma is free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost: £6602.
Year 1, Foundation Diploma - £2573.
Year 2, Extended Diploma - £4029.

If you are aged 19 years or over on the 1st day of your course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with your College fees. If you progress to employment you won't have to pay anything back until you’re earning £27,295 per year. Your household income isn't taken into account and there's no credit check. This course is combination of internal and external assessments. You will be assessed on your production of written work, taking part in role-plays and group work and individual presentations.
Two units- Travel and Tourism Industry and Global Destinations are externally assessed.
There may be an opportunity to complete an Industry Placement alongside your main Level 3 course.
Industry placements give you the chance to put into practice what you have learned and you will have the opportunity to spend an average of 50 days working for an employer, in a role directly relevant to your course.
With an Industry Placement you will gain technical skills, be prepared for the world of work, and gain connections in order to secure a job after your course.
