Inspiring learners to pursue a career in Transport and Logistics
Boston College opened the doors of its brand-new Digital Transport and Logistics Academy today for a Transport and Logistics Careers Day.
Local secondary school students were invited, alongside Boston College students to find out about the new Transport and Logistics courses available at the College as well as opportunities within the sector.
The event saw a number of local employers attend, including FreshLinc, GIST, Kimes Transports, and Turners Ltd, each showcasing the variety of careers available within the industry. Learners had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities including hands-on tours of HGV lorries, seeing what it is like to drive an HGV, using the College’s state of the art driving simulator as well as hearing from industry professionals.
Speaking during the event Claire Ryan, GIST HGV driver and Paul Brummitt, General Manager at Kimes Transport, said, “Given the amount of Transport and Logistics companies in the area, encouraging future learners in the logistics industry is a huge importance, days like today and the courses on off at Boston College’s new Digital, Transport and Logistics Academy are key to doing this.”
