The qualifications aim is to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles required for a variety of job roles in the adult health and social care sector including:

This qualification can be used to update and continue your professional development, (CPD), and to develop knowledge/skills relevant to the occupational specialisation. It is suitable for anyone who works, or is hoping to gain employment, in this field.

What will I do?

You will study:

Unit 1 - Principles of communication in adult social care settings
Unit 2 - Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
Unit 3 - Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
Unit 4 - Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Unit 5 - Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings
Unit 6 - Understand the role of the social care worker
Unit 7 - Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings
Unit 8 - Understand health and safety in social care settings
Unit 9 - Understand how to handle information in social care settings

Entry Qualifications

To study this course, you will need:

To be aged 19+ on 31st August of the year you start the course
A minimum of a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent

We can assess your English/Literacy level before you enrol on the Distance Learning course to see if you are currently working to this level. Please contact distancelearning@boston.ac.uk to request further information.

To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.

Attendance

This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.

Fees

This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.

Please note that if you choose to withdraw from this course, you may have to pay a non-completion fee. However, we understand that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses, and our staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be allocated your own online study pack and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There is no formal exam, however there will be written assessments related to the content.

Where Could It Lead?

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
