The Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Certificate aims to raise awareness of mental health and a range of mental health conditions.

You will have support from an assessor within the health and social care department. Your assessor is occupational competent and will support and work with you throughout the course.

Please note - Learners studying a Health and Social Care course need to meet current Government legal requirements relating to COVID-19 vaccination status when working in the health and social care sector. This means learners must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, this includes being double vaccinated and having received a booster. Learners need to meet this legal requirement to be able to attend placement, without attending placement learners cannot complete their qualifications.

If you think you may be medically exempt from the COVID-19 mandatory vaccination. Learners will need to provide evidence of an NHS Covid pass medical exemption. There is further guidance on how to apply for a medical exemption and prove you are unable to get vaccinated on the government website.

What will I do?

To be awarded the Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Certificate, you will be required to successfully complete 10 mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 - Understanding mental health
  • Unit 02 - Understanding stress
  • Unit 03 - Understanding anxiety
  • Unit 04 - Understanding phobias
  • Unit 05 - Understanding depression
  • Unit 06 - Understanding postnatal depression
  • Unit 07 - Understanding bipolar disorder
  • Unit 08 - Understanding schizophrenia
  • Unit 09 - Understanding dementia
  • Unit 10 - Understanding eating disorders

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Certificate.

The Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Certificate will take you 11 months to complete. Start dates are flexible.

The Level 2 Mental Health Awareness Certificate may be fully funded by the Adult Education Budget should you be eligible under the following criteria:

  • Be aged 19 or older on the 31st August
  • Be either unemployed and receiving JSA, ESA or Universal Credit (subject to criteria) OR be earning less than £18,525 (annual gross salary) a year

If you do not qualify for funding under the AEB budget courses fees may vary depending on circumstances, please enquire for futher information.

This course is assessor led. You will be assessed by a qualified assessor on a monthly basis throughout the duration of the course

Successful completion of this qualification could lead onto studying the Level 2 Care Diploma.
