Community Health and Wellbeing Workers operate in diverse settings and hold various job titles, each playing a vital role in addressing issues shaped by health, social care, cultural, economic, and environmental factors. They adopt a holistic approach to support individuals and communities, requiring a broad mix of skills, knowledge, and training to be effective advocates and facilitators of change.
Common job titles in this field include Care or Service Navigator, Community Connector, Community Health Champion, Health Trainer, Live Well Coach, and Social Prescribing Link Worker.
Day-to-day responsibilities can vary but often involve direct engagement with individuals and community groups. A key focus is on supporting access to services, promoting healthier lifestyles, and reducing health inequalities. They are also involved in identifying, developing, and sharing up-to-date resources and interventions that empower people to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing.
During the course, you will learn to help individuals with their care and support needs, and you will assist individuals to have control over their lives through choice and independence. You will explore the behaviours and skills that are expected in the care section, including:
You will be supported to reach the gateway to end point assessment to achieve the Apprenticeship Standard, and you will also have the opportunity to complete the qualification in Emergency Paediatric First Aid Award Level 3.
To study the Community Health and Wellbeing Apprenticeship Level 3, you will need to have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent.
The Community Health and Wellbeing Apprenticeship Level 3 will take you a minimum of 12 months to complete. You will attend college for half a day per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also attend your Apprenticeship with your Employer for 4 and a half days per week.
As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage. There are different rates of pay for Apprentices depending on your age and the year of your Apprenticeship that you’re in.
Aged 16-18: The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £7.55 per hour.
Aged 19+ and in your first year: The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £7.55 per hour.
Aged 19+ and have completed your first year: You are entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate for your age.

You will be assigned an Assessor who will observe your practice throughout the duration of your course. Your Assessor will offer support and guidance while using a variety of assessment methods to help you achieve the requirements of the qualification.
When you, your Employer and your Assessor feel you are ready, you will be put forward for the End Point Assessment which will be carried out independently. This will include:
The Community Health and Wellbeing Apprenticeship Level 3 course prepares individuals for roles such as Care or Service Navigator, Community Connector, Community Health Champion, Health Trainer, Live Well Coach, and Social Prescribing Link Worker. This Apprenticeship also provides a solid foundation for further study, including University Level qualification in Public Health, Health Promotion, or Social Care, supporting continued career development in the health and social care sector.
