Our Level 2 (Intermediate) Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of intermediate adult care working techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.

This Apprenticeship is a national recognised qualification that is design to guide and develop your skills within health and social care.

What will I do?

During the apprenticeship you will learn to help individuals with their care and support needs and you will assist individuals to have control over their lives through choice and independence.

You will learn about the behaviours expected in the care sector which include-

  • Compassion
  • Care
  • Communication
  • Commitment
  • Competence
  • Person centred care and values

You will also gain valuable skills which include

  • Empathy
  • Effective person-centred skills
  • Time management
  • Organisation skills

Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will gain the following recognised qualifications –

  • QCF Diploma Adult Care – accredited – Pass level
  • Care Certificate – non-accredited

The Apprenticeship consists of several elements, which have been identified by employers as an appropriate set of skills to operate in their chosen job role.

These elements are:
Maths - Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills, unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.

English - Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills, unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.

Vocational Element (Knowledge) - most Apprenticeship include off-the-job study for a technical certificate which is usually done at College.

Vocational Element (Competence) - all Apprenticeships include on-the-job training and assessment leading to a competence based vocational qualification.

On some Apprenticeships, the knowledge and competence elements are combined into one qualification.

The entry qualifications for the Level 2 (Intermediate) Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship are one GCSE Grade E or above (New GCSE grade 2 or above) in English and Maths or functional skills Level 1 in English and Maths or working toward completing this.

You must also be working within a health and social care environment for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

The Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship will take you 12 – 18 months to complete, and is accomplished in the workplace.

As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.70 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.

In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:

Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.20 per hour.

18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £5.90 per hour.

21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.38 per hour.

25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £7.83 per hour.

You will be supported through one-to-one delivery. Individual feedback will be given to enable you to achieve relevant milestones throughout the training programme to ensure successful complete of the End Point Assessment (EPA) which comprises:

  • A multiple choice test
  • A professional discussion (45 minutes)

You will also be supported in your workplace through regular meetings between you and your assessor which will include, but not be limited to, professional discussion, observations, written work feedback and action planning, all relating to the expected outcomes of the Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship.

It is anticipated that learners will progress on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or to specialise in their chosen field of work.
