The Abrasive Wheels Safety course complies with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER): Safety in Use of Abrasive Wheels.

You will study the approved advisory literature relating to the mounting of abrasive wheels and hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and precautions which should be observed.

What will I do?

During the Abrasive Wheels Safety course, you will study the following topics:

  • Approved advisory literature relating to the mounting of abrasive wheels
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels and precautions which should be observed
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels as to type and speed
  • Methods of inspecting and testing abrasive wheels to check for damage
  • The functions of all components used with abrasive wheels, including flanges, blotters, brushes and nuts used in mounting and including knowledge of the correct and incorrect methods of assembling all components and correct balancing of abrasive wheels
  • The proper method of dressing an abrasive wheel
  • The adjustment of the rest of an abrasive wheel
  • The requirements of The Abrasive Wheels Regulations 1970, which has now been superseded by the PUWER Act 1998

This course contains both theory and practical elements and you will be required to bring protective clothing along with you.

There are no formal entry qualifications for the Abrasive Wheels Safety course.

The Abrasive Wheels Safety course will take you 2 days to complete. You will attend college from 5:00pm-8:00pm for 1 evening per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Abrasive Wheels Safety course will cost Β£120.

Please note that all fees are subject to change.

There is no formal examination or assessment on this course. By attending you will be awarded a Boston College Attendance Certificate.

Completion of this course will equip the learner with the skills/knowledge needed to progress in the workplace.
