The Information, Advice and Guidance Certificate Level 2 is beneficial for anyone with an interest in improving their knowledge of the role of information, advice and guidance to a more in-depth level. It supports employment roles where you may give initial information, advice or guidance to others. The skills learnt can then be applied in your own context. This course will aid you in understanding, and being able to apply key themes, such as IAG practice, interaction skills, signposting and referrals, management of information, IAG with groups.

This qualification can be used to update and continue your professional development (CPD) and to develop knowledge/skills relevant to your occupational specialisation. It is suitable for anyone who works, or is hoping to gain employment, in this field. It can also lead to further qualifications in this area.

What will I do?

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • Information, Advice and Guidance Practice
  • Developing Interaction Skills Required for Information, Advice or Guidance
  • Signposting and Referral in Information, Advice or Guidance
  • Information, Advice and Guidance - Context
  • Skills for Advice Providers

To study this course, you will need:

  • To be aged 19+ on 31st August of the year you start the course
  • A minimum of a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent

To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.

This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.

This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.

We do accept that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses. If you find yourself struggling with the qualification, our support staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution. However, if you are studying a free course and choose to withdraw, you may have to pay a non-completion fee of £85 to cover the administration costs, materials and registration fees.

You will be allocated your own online study pack and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There is no formal exam, however there will be written assessments related to the content.

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further courses to continue your CPD.
