Highlighting Road Safety during Road Safety Week 2021
To support Road Safety Week 2021, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) spent the day at Boston College providing introduction sessions to road safety.
Road Safety Week is the UK’s biggest road safety event coordinated each year by national charity, Brake. This year’s theme is Road Safety Heroes and celebrates the heroic work of road safety professionals, and how everyone can play a part in making journeys safer.
Building on the already established partnership, IAM Lincolnshire attended the College’s Digital Transport and Logistics Academy to speak to current Boston College learners from across all course areas and staff regarding the importance of driver and road safety.
IAM Lincolnshire is ran by a team of volunteers who are passionate about making life on the road safe. They have recently teamed up with Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Marc Jones, to provide 100 FREE Advanced Driver Courses for 17-24-year olds across Lincolnshire. In support of this, IAM Lincolnshire also provide a FREE Advanced Taster Drive, where learners can assess their strengths, identify where they can improve and build their confidence behind the wheel.
Speaking of the presentations, Roger Hicks, IAM Chair and Chief Observer said, “We are delighted to establish a partnership with Boston College to enable us to reach out to young drivers with an introduction to the importance of road safety. Highlighting this understanding is particularly vital in Lincolnshire due to the lack of public transport available. We hope for this to be the start of an ongoing partnership enabling us to work towards our key objective to improve road safety to make better drivers and reduce the number of people seriously injured or killed on the roads. Boston College have demonstrated their proactive responsibility for the safety of their students, and the wider community, by allowing them access to initiatives such as this.”
