Boston College are celebrating this week after being awarded over £30,000 of funding from The Wolfson Foundation, which will go towards a complete overhaul of the kitchen facilities at the College’s Ingelow Centre.

The Wolfson Foundation is an independent, grant-making charity, with the aim to improve the civic health of society, mainly through education and research. Back in December 2019, the College were informed they had been successful in the first stage of the application within the ‘Health and Disability’ funding stream and subsequently submitted a more detailed application in February. The funding grants were then announced on the 30th June with Boston College winning a total funding amount of £33,000.

This substantial amount of funding will go towards a full refurbishment and refit of the kitchen facilities at the College’s Ingelow Centre. The facilities will undergo a total modernisation, in line with industry standards, as well as improving accessibility for all learners. In addition, there will also be a new serving hatch, kitchen equipment, flooring and cupboards. This will enable Foundation (Entry/SEND) learners based at the centre to broaden the range of skills they learn to include a wider variety of catering techniques and also incorporate Barista skills.

Speaking of the funding, Carol Hanford, Programme Area Manager for Foundation (Entry/SEND) said, “All of the staff at the Ingelow Centre are thrilled and excited about receiving the funding from The Wolfson Foundation to refurbish our Catering facilities. Our plans are to upgrade to current industry standards, giving our learners an opportunity to learn in a realistic working environment, which in turn will support them to realistically move into employment within this sector. We are looking forward to the work being completed and introducing our learners to the wonderful new facilities, as they return after a period away from the College. A very positive start for a new academic year.”
