Boston College Awarded Grant to Elevate Catering and Hospitality Training Facilities
Boston College is delighted to announce it has received a grant from the Savoy Educational Trust, supporting the relocation and enhancement of its catering and hospitality training facilities as part of the College’s new flagship Mayflower building.
This project is supported by a grant from the Savoy Educational Trust, an organisation committed to improving education, training and skills development within the hospitality sector. The Trust’s funding will play a significant role in supporting the transition from the College’s existing training kitchens into a modern, industry-standard environment within Mayflower – a space designed to elevate both student learning and community engagement.
The new kitchen facilities will continue to provide a vital hands-on learning space for full-time school leavers, part-time adult learners, and local businesses. These students gain real-world experience by serving customers in Eden, the College’s acclaimed fine dining restaurant, which is also moving to a new home within the Mayflower building. Open to the general public, Eden offers students the opportunity to refine their skills in a professional setting that reflects the high standards of the industry.
Boston College has a proven track record of success in hospitality training, with former students going on to build outstanding careers in elite establishments including Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants, Raymond Blanc’s kitchens, and Richard Branson’s private island.
The Mayflower building, set to open in September 2025, is the centrepiece of Boston’s Town Deal – a government-backed initiative designed to regenerate the local economy. Located on Rowley Road, on the site of the former Ingelow Centre, Mayflower will be a unique and inclusive space that brings together higher and further education, careers advice, voluntary services, health and wellbeing support, and opportunities for digital upskilling. It will further collaboration between learners and businesses, driving innovation and tackling skills gaps across the region.
“We’re incredibly thankful to the Savoy Educational Trust for their support,” said Claire Foster, Principal and CEO of Boston College. “This funding will not only help us deliver industry-standard facilities for our learners but also ensure our hospitality and catering offer continues to thrive in an inspiring and professional environment.”
Reflecting on their involvement, Angela Maher, Chief Executive of the Savoy Educational Trust said, “The Savoy Educational Trust is proud to support initiatives that help learners achieve their potential and progress into successful careers in hospitality. Boston College’s new Mayflower kitchen will not only provide an inspiring, professional space for students to develop their skills, but also strengthen collaboration with local employers and help nurture the next generation of talent for the sector, both locally and beyond.”
