Add to ShortlistThe Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills Level 7 is to develop outstanding teachers for the UK Further Education and Skills sector, as well as for Post-14 education in other domestic and international settings.
By completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Education Post 14 (Education and Training) you will achieve 60 credits at Level 7 which can support your progression onto a Master’s qualification.
Successful completion of this course qualifies you to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, which shows professionalism for post-14 education and training.
What will I do?
Throughout the Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills you will study six, 20-credit modules, forming an overall 120 credit award.
These module include -
- Exploring the FE Teaching Role (20 credits)
- Professional Practice 1 (20 credits)
- Learning Theories Applied (20 credits)
- Professional Practice 2 (20 credits)
- The Curriculum Explained (20 credits)
- Examining Subject Pedagogy (20 credits)
The overall purpose of the PGCE Post 14 Further Education and Skills (FES) programme is to develop outstanding teachers for all parts of the FES Sector, primarily but not exclusively in settings where students are aged 14 and above. The majority of FES teachers work in FE colleges (whether general or specialist), independent training providers (ITPs), Adult Community Learning (ACL) providers, or offender learning.
Entry Qualifications
The entry requirements for the Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills is an undergraduate degree (minimum 2:2). You will also need to possess a minimum of Level 2 in English and maths, which is recognised by the Society for Education and Training’s (SET) list of approved qualifications for QTLS.
You will also be required to have at least 75 hours of teaching across each year and be supported by a mentor.
Volunteering can only count if it is in Boston College and all other requirements are met such as being supported by a mentor and that the volunteering runs across the whole year.
All applications are subject to approval by the University of Derby (UoD). In order for the University to approve your application we are required to share your personal information. This includes sharing the application form that you have completed to study this course, and in some instances, copies of your maths, English and highest-level qualification certificate.
Attendance
The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills will take you two years to complete.
You will attend Boston College for 3 hours per week, Tuesday 5pm - 8pm, for a total of 35 weeks a year.
Fees
The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills will cost you £3460 per year, you may be eligible to apply to Student Finance England to cover you Tuition fees.

How Will I Be Assessed
During the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills each module will be assessed on 50% practical and 50% theory.
Where Could It Lead?
Upon completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Post 14 Further Education and Skills you will be eligible to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status via the Society for Education and Training.
