The Pearson BTEC Sound Media HND Level 5 is designed for creative individuals with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. This course is crafted with the help of industry experts to balance creativity and technical ability with essential knowledge and employability skills.

Throughout this course, you will develop a deep understanding of traditional and new technologies in areas of music, while enhancing your learning and preparing for the demands of the workplace. You will develop both technical and transferable skills, including critical thinking, creative thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. You will graduate with the confidence to deliver high quality outcomes, lead projects, manage teams, and respond to changes in dynamic creative environments.

What will I do?

The Sound Media HND Level 5 is a two year course. During your first year, you will study a Level 4 HNC. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 5 HND.

Modules Include:

  • Concept and Development: Develop your creative concepts and skills through various projects and assignments
  • Creative Project: Apply your learning in a significant creative project that showcases your skills and understanding
  • Personal Professional Development: Focus on your personal and professional growth, setting goals and strategies for your career
  • Professional Project: Undertake a major project that demonstrates your professional skills and knowledge

Throughout this course, you will develop confidence in areas such as:

  • Developing and applying your own ideas to your studies
  • Dealing with uncertainty and complexity
  • Exploring solutions
  • Demonstrating critical evaluation
  • Using both theory and practice in a wide range of engineering situations
  • Understanding the principles in the specialist area of study and how to apply these principles more widely in the business world

In order to study the Sound Media HND Level 5, you will need to have successfully completed:

  • An MMP at Level 3 in a related subject, or Access to Higher Education qualification, or an A Level equivalent (minimum 80 new UCAS points) in related subjects
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 and/or minimum IELTS score of 6

Relevant work experience may be considered if you do not meet the above criteria.

You will attend college for 2-3 days a week for two years at our Sam Newson Centre, plus approximately 24 hours of independent study per week.

The Sound Media HND Level 5 will cost ยฃ7100 per year.

Assessment is via a variety of methods, including creative projects and assignments.

The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments, which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

The Pearson HND courses are highly valued by employers and can lead to careers specialisms. Progression onto an undergraduate degree or further professional qualifications in a related area are possible.
