The Level 1 Motor Vehicle (Automotive Technologies) Diploma is delivered in theory and practical workshops, covering health and safety, good housekeeping, job roles within the automotive industry and materials and fabrication. As well as the mandatory unit in Health and Safety, other units may include:
Delivery of the qualification is supplemented by visits to museums and shows, this helps broaden your perspective of progression opportunities following successful completion of the course.
The course is a great mix of both theory and practical, allowing you time in our workshops and classrooms to experience the world of Engineering. You will also develop your skills for employment, looking at different careers and engineering employers.
In addition to your course, you may also need to study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your GCSE grades.
Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grades 2 or above (Old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent (to include English or maths), or any one of the following, an Entry 3 qualification, a Certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, an ESOL Entry L3 qualification.
If you are unable to meet these entry requirements enrolment onto our Pathways to Progress provision will prepare you for progression into the curriculum area of your choice, either in-year (depending on progress made in the first six weeks) or the following September. We also offer full time ESOL courses which give you opportunity to develop your language skills further prior to progression into the curriculum area of your choice the following September.
The Level 1 Motor Vehicle (Automotive Technologies) Diploma is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost £1500.

Successful completion of the Level 1 Motor Vehicle (Automotive Technologies) Diploma allows you to apply for an automotive Apprenticeship or continue your studies on the Level 2 Motor Vehicle Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair IMI Diploma.
Specific Progression routes – FE, Apprenticeship, Employment.
