Throughout the Level 2 Barbering Certificate, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to advise and consult, and provide a range of cutting and barbering services specifically for men's hair, which includes shaving and creating facial hair shapes.
In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed.
Learners who achieve this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Barber (SRGB) with The Hair Council and join the British Barbers' Association. As a junior barber, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by completing an advanced apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in barbering, these include:
This Level 2 Barbering Certificate is based on the national occupational standards for barbering and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior barber. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:

In addition to completing mandatory units, learners are required to achieve nine credits from optional units which include (this list is not exhaustive): assist with shaving services, relax hair, perm and neutralise hair, plait and twist hair and colour and lighten men's hair.
Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grade 2 or above (Old GCSE grade E or above) or equivalent (to include English or maths), or any one of the following, an Entry 3 qualification, a Certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, an ESOL Entry L3 qualification.
The Barbering Certificate is available to those aged 19+ and will cost £541.00.
