This qualification is beneficial for anyone with an interest in developing their understanding of children and young people’s mental health. It will aid you in understanding the factors affecting mental health and a range of common conditions experienced by children and young people. It will help you develop skills to understand the causes, minimise risks associated and learn coping mechanism for you and the person affected. You will also gain knowledge on the legislation around this topic.
This qualification can be used to update and continue your professional development (CPD) and to develop knowledge/skills relevant to your occupational specialisation. It is suitable for anyone who works, or is hoping to gain employment, in this field. It can also lead to further qualifications in this area.
During the Level 2 Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health Certificate you will study the below units:
These will be assessed over five pieces of work, over three workbooks. These are structured in this way to enable better progression through the qualification.
As this is an adult learning course, you will need to be aged 19 or over. You will also need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent, as the course requires you write your answers for assessment purposes.

To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.
This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.
This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.
We do accept that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses. If you find yourself struggling with the qualification, our support staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution. However, if you are studying a free course and choose to withdraw, you may have to pay a non-completion fee of £85 to cover the administration costs, materials and registration fees.

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
