This Level 2 Understanding Autism Certificate is designed for anyone who has an interest in improving their knowledge and understanding of autism. It will explain techniques available to support individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives. The term 'autism' is used to include all autistic spectrum conditions, including Asperger syndrome. It is ideal for anyone working, or hoping to work in the education sector as Continual Professional Development (CPD) or those who support family/friends with autism.

It will aid you in understanding and being able to apply key themes such as diagnosis, sources of information and support, and best practice relating to autism.

What will I do?

During the Level 2 Understanding Autism Certificate you will study the below units:

  • Unit 1 - Signs, symptoms and diagnosis of autism
  • Unit 2 - Sources of information and support, legislation, and policy relevant to autism
  • Unit 3 - Living with autism
  • Unit 4 - Best practice relating to autism

To study this course, you will need:

  • To be aged 19+ on 31st August of the year you start the course
  • A minimum of a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent

To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.

This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.

This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.

Please note that if you choose to withdraw from this course, you may have to pay a non-completion fee. However, we understand that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses, and our staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution.

You will be allocated your own online study pack and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There is no formal exam, however there will be written assessments related to the content.

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
