The Art for Wellbeing Award Level 2 course builds on the foundation of creative exploration established at Level 1, offering a more focused and personal journey into art and design practice. This course is ideal for students who wish to deepen their creative skills, take greater ownership of their projects, and begin to explore specific areas of interest in more detail. You will be encouraged to develop your personal creative practice while learning how historical and contextual research underpins and informs contemporary art and design. You will explore how artists and designers have responded to the world around them, and how this can inspire and shape your own work.

The qualification continues to foster creativity as a tool for wellbeing, promoting a reflective and mindful approach to making. This course focuses on topics and techniques including Ceramics, Mark-making, Printmaking and Painting. You will hone your technical and creative skills through hands-on experimentation with materials, methods, and processes; focus on a personal area of interest, developing a project that reflects your individual style and ideas; undertake independent research to inform and support your work, with opportunities to respond to themes that are meaningful to you; and build confidence and resilience through creative expression, while learning to manage and take responsibility for your own creative process.

What will I do?

Class activities will include experimental art-making with different materials, learning different ways of seeing and recording, and learning new craft-related skills. By the end of the course, you will have a better understanding of the value and role of art and creativity for mental well-being and be equipped with skills, confidence, and knowledge of a range of craft material, techniques, and processes.

You will study units designed to give you a solid foundation in practical and contextual aspects of art and design:

  • Introduction to Materials, Processes and Technical Skills in Art and Design
  • Introduction to Contextual Research in Art and Design

To pass this course, you will need to complete all three of these units. You will need to document your processes and findings for submission. This record will be returned to you following moderation and will, in future, be a valuable resource for you to revisit to remind yourself of your creative journey, as well as being able to refresh your memory on how to do the different crafts you will have tried.

To study this course, you will need to have successfully completed the Art for Wellbeing Award Level 1 course or equivalent.

The Art for Wellbeing Award Level 2 will take you 16 weeks to complete starting on Thursday 11th September 2025. You will attend college from 6:00pm-9:00pm for 1 day per week (Thursdays) at our Rochford Campus in Boston. You will also be expected to undertake additional work at home in order to back up classroom activity.
