Our Level 4 (Higher) Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised course involving the use of higher accounting or taxation techniques and training, offering you the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience.
Higher Accounting Apprentices work in job roles such as accounts manager or accounting technician. As an Apprentice, you will receive on-the-job training at your workplace and support from your assessor.
The Apprenticeship framework consists of several elements, which have been identified by employers as an appropriate set of skills to operate in their chosen job role.
Maths - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.
English - You will be required to have already achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE or equivalent.
ICT -Level 2 is a requirement of these Apprenticeships unless an equivalent qualification has already been achieved.
ERR - Employee Rights and Responsibilities, which includes health and safety, equality and diversity as well as employment legislation.
PLTS - Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, which includes team working, creative thinking and reflective learning.
Vocational Element (Knowledge) - most Apprenticeship frameworks include off-the-job study for a technical certificate, which is usually done at College.
Vocational Element (Competence) - all Apprenticeships include on-the-job training and assessment leading to a competence based vocational qualification.
On some frameworks, the knowledge and competence elements are combined into one qualification.
As a Boston College student, you will have access to library facilities and IT equipment. A variety of food and drinks from the College coffee shop, bistro and canteen. The College also provides free parking and learners during term time and recreational activities.
In addition to your course, you may also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.
The entry qualifications for Level 4 Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician Apprenticeship are five GCSEs at grades 4 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including English and Maths and successful completion of the Level 3 AAT qualification (or equivalent).
You will also need to be working in an accounting role either in practice or business environment and have a degree of autonomy and responsibility within your job role.
All applications will be considered on an individual basis and will be subject to the entry requirements alongside a successful interview with the course tutor.
The Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician Apprenticeship will take you 18 months to complete. You will study at College for one day a week, and four days with your employer.
You will also be expected to undertake considerable private study.
As an Apprentice, you will pay no course fees. However, your employer may have to pay towards your training as well as providing you with a wage (please see below).

All Apprentices will receive a minimum wage of £3.90 per hour within their first year of training from their employer, although they can, and often do, pay more.
In the second and subsequent years of an Apprenticeship programme, the following applies:
Under 18s – the required national minimum wage of £4.35 per hour.
18–20 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £6.15 per hour.
21-24 year olds - the required national minimum wage of £7.70 per hour.
25 year olds and over – the required national minimum wage of £8.21 per hour.

The Level 4 Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician Apprenticeship is assessed by computer based exams and the Level 4 Diploma in Business Skills is assessed by a portfolio of evidence, which is collected from the workplace. This may include presentations and assignment writing.
You will also be allocated an assessor who will assess your progress as you complete your course and carry out monthly reviews.
Additional costs include purchasing an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper.
