This course is ideal for individuals who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of distressed behaviours in children. Part of a child’s natural development is to practice their independence, which can be frustrating and difficult for parents. Distressed behaviour in children is prolonged can take several different forms, such as anger, lack of attention, physical and verbal abuse, reluctance to socialise, self-harm and possibly putting themselves and others at risk. It is a complex issue and can contribute to further issues in adolescence if not addressed earlier.
The purpose of the course is to help you to develop your knowledge of distressed behaviour in children and as you work your way through you will gain a general awareness of the causes of distressed behaviour. It aims to provide an understanding of appropriate ways in which to support a child displaying distressed behaviour. In addition, leaners will be encouraged to consider how other conditions can play a role in distressed behaviour. The course also covers how current legislation underpins approaches to providing support for a child displaying distressed behaviours.
Unit One: Awareness of distressed behaviour in children.
Unit Two: Principles of intervention when working with children who display distressed behaviour.
Unit Three: Distressed behaviour and mental health in children.
Unit Four: Distressed behaviour and learning disabilities in children.
Unit Five: Distressed behaviour, sensory processing conditions and autism spectrum conditions in children.

This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.
This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.
We do accept that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses. If you find yourself struggling with the qualification, our support staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution. However, if you are studying a free course and choose to withdraw, you may have to pay a non-completion fee of £85 to cover the administration costs, materials, and registration fees.

You will be allocated your own online study pack and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There is no formal exam, however there will be written assessments related to the content.
Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
