The Level 1 Certificate in Employment Skills and Personal Development (ESOL) is for those who have studied ESOL previously or who want to develop their confidence in English before moving onto a vocational course. This course introduces you to the skills needed for success in the workplace whilst continuing to develop your English language skills. You will learn from staff that boast a wide range of knowledge and experience, whilst having a strong focus on employability skills relevant to the workplace.
During the course, you will develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life.
This course is made up of a number of units and you will study a wide range of subjects which could include:
In addition to your course, you will have extra English classes to help you to develop your reading, writing and speaking and listening skills, as well as undertaking some practical sessions such as First Aid, Food Safety and Barista courses to help you to get your first full-time job or a part-time job if you are continuing your studies.
Please note, you may also study either GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade.There are no formal entry requirements to study this course, however we will assess your language skills on entry to decide if this course is the right for you.
The Professional Skills (ESOL) Certificate Level 1 will take you 1 year to complete. You will attend college for a minimum of four days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.
This course is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.
If you are aged 19+, this course will cost Β£1500.

You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, which include observation, written assessments, discussions with tutor and workbooks.
Successful completion of the Professional Skills (ESOL) Certificate Level 1 along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 2 course at Boston College, an apprenticeship or employment.
Additional costs may include an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper.
