Allergy Awareness for those Working with Children Certificate Level 2
This is suitable for a wide range of learners and the aim of the qualification is to develop knowledge and understanding of allergy awareness. This will include the causes of allergies and what to do should an allergic reaction occur.
Your studies will include topics such as :
- Allergens, allergies and intolerances
- Food labelling and packaging
- Allergy awareness for those who work with adults
Unit 1 : Gain a background knowledge behind allergies, allergens and intolerances as well as an understanding of how allergies and intolerances are diagnosed and treated.
Unit 2 : Investigate different types of food labels and their importance in keeping those with allergies safe. Understand regulations surrounding food labelling and recognise when a label is incorrect.
Unit 4 : All the information is focussed upon adult health and social care. You will learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions on different parts of the body and how to perform first aid on those who have experienced a severe reaction.
Please note: You may only complete one of the Distance Learning Allergy Awareness courses as the first two units for theses qualifications are all exactly the same. These courses are:
- Allergy Awareness Working With Children Certificate Level 2
- Allergy Awareness Working in the Service Sector Certificate Level 2
- Allergy Awareness Working in Adult Social Care Certificate Level 2
What will I do?
You will study:
Unit One - Allergens, allergies and intolerances
- Section 1: Understand food allergens, allergies, and intolerances
- Section 2: Know the methods for allergy diagnosis and treatment
- Section 3: Know the methods for intolerance diagnosis and treatment
Unit Two - Food labelling and packaging
- Section 1: Understand the importance of food labelling
- Section 2: Understand regulations for food labelling
- Section 3: Understand packaging regulations
Unit Three - Allergy awareness for those working with children
- Section 1: Know the signs and effects of allergic reactions
- Section 2: Understand how to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction
Entry Qualifications
As this is an adult learning course, you will need to be aged be 19+ as at 31st August prior to the start of the current academic year. You will also need to have at least a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent, as the course requires you write your answers for assessment purposes.
We can also assess your English/Literacy level before you enrol for the Distance Learning course to see if you are currently working to this level. Please contact distancelearning@boston.ac.uk to request further information.
To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.
Attendance
Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish.
This course is only available to study fully online.
Fees
This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.
We do accept that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses. If you find yourself struggling with the qualification, our support staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution. However, if you are studying a free course and choose to withdraw, you may have to pay a non-completion fee of £85 to cover the administration costs, materials and registration fees.

How Will I Be Assessed
You will be allocated your own study pack, (online), and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There will be written assessments related to the content. There is no formal exam.
Where Could It Lead?
Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
