I achieved my Level 3 Sport qualification at Boston College and progressed onto university, however the course wasn’t quite right for the direction I wanted my career to take, so I returned to Boston and spoke to the Sports department about the HND course.
The course involved two days a week attendance, which gave me the chance to earn money, increase my coaching experience and generate industry contacts in the local community, alongside achieving my qualification. I now run my own sports academy business, working with lots of local primary schools, and I employ a few people. During new business pitches the schools ask what level I am qualified to, so my Level 5 HND backs up my years of coaching experience. I am also able to draw upon the knowledge and experience I gained from the course within my day-to-day job, especially during indoor sessions within which I can utilise my knowledge on nutrition and the human body.
The tutors were helpful, the small group size allowed them to offer regular one-to-one support, during which I received good advice for my next steps into employment.
