This is suitable for a wide range of learners and the aim of the qualification is to develop knowledge and understanding of allergy awareness. This will include the causes of allergies and what to do should an allergic reaction occur.

Please note: You may only complete one of the Distance Learning Allergy Awareness courses as the first two units for these qualifications are all exactly the same. These courses are:

  • Allergy Awareness Working With Children Certificate Level 2
  • Allergy Awareness Working in the Service Sector Certificate Level 2
  • Allergy Awareness Working in Adult Social Care Certificate Level 2

What will I do?

You will study:

Unit One - Allergens, allergies and intolerances

  • Section 1: Understand food allergens, allergies, and intolerances
  • Section 2: Know the methods for allergy diagnosis and treatment
  • Section 3: Know the methods for intolerance diagnosis and treatment
 

Unit Two - Food labelling and packaging

  • Section 1: Understand the importance of food labelling
  • Section 2: Understand regulations for food labelling
  • Section 3: Understand packaging regulations
 

Unit Four - Allergy awareness for those working in Adult Health and Social Care

  • Section 1: Know the signs and effects of allergic reactions
  • Section 2: Understand how to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction

To study this course, you will need:

  • To be aged 19+ on 31st August of the year you start the course
  • A minimum of a Level 1 qualification in English/Literacy or equivalent
 

We can assess your English/Literacy level before you enrol on the Distance Learning course to see if you are currently working to this level. Please contact distancelearning@boston.ac.uk to request further information.

To assist in completion of this qualification, it may help to be working in, or have access to, the chosen sector. If you already have a higher-level qualification in this specialism, it may impact on your eligibility.

This course will take you approximately 14 weeks to complete. Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish. This course will be studied via fully online learning and assessments.

This course is currently being subsidised by Boston College and is therefore FREE* of charge.

Please note that if you choose to withdraw from this course, you may have to pay a non-completion fee. However, we understand that sometimes there are exceptional circumstances that prohibit you from completing these courses, and our staff will always try to help you find a workable resolution.

You will be allocated your own online study pack and will be supported by a personal tutor who you can contact throughout your studies. You will work through a series of tasks and activities to assist in gaining the qualification. There is no formal exam, however there will be written assessments related to the content.

Successful completion of the course will lead to a better understanding of the subject, which may improve your career prospects. You could also progress onto other qualifications in this field, or further Distance Learning courses to continue your CPD.
