Combining Politics, Biology and Environmental Science, this pathway offers a comprehensive foundation in environmental science, sustainability, and the policymaking processes that can shape a greener future. Understand the science behind climate change, the geography of our world, and the policies driving environmental action.

In A Level Politics, you will deepen your understanding of political ideologies, institutions, and contemporary issues, equipping you to analyse political processes and global relations. A Level Biology delves into the biological aspects of health and disease, including physiology, genetics, and pharmacology, which are crucial for understanding illnesses, treatments, and advancements in medicine. A Level Environmental Science investigates the relationship between humans and the natural world, learning about environmental processes, pollution, resource management, and sustainability, preparing you for impactful roles in environmental conservation and policymaking.

By integrating these subjects, this pathway prepares you for careers in environmental science, government and policy, geography and sustainability, and education and advocacy.

What will I do?

A Level Politics:
Study UK Politics (Democracy, participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media) Core Political Ideas (Conservatism, Liberalism and Socialism), UK Government (the constitution, Parliament, the Prime Minister and Executive, and relations between the different branches of government), Non-Core Political Ideas and Global Politics (globalisation, political and economic governance, human rights and environmental governance, power, regionalism and comparative developments.

A Level Biology:
Embark on an exciting journey by igniting your passion for life sciences and unravelling the intricacies of our world. Covering 8 stimulating topics like biological molecules, genetics, ecology, and gene technologies, the course blends captivating lectures with hands-on practical sessions. You'll participate in 12 laboratory experiments, exploring biochemical tests, dissections, and organism movement. With a focus on practical skills, we prepare you for future studies and career growth in Biology's experimental realm.

A Level Environmental Science:
Explore the relationship between humans and the natural world, examining environmental processes, pollution, resource management, and sustainability. This module equips you with the knowledge and skills to actively contribute to environmental conservation, influence policy-making, and address global challenges, preparing you for a future dedicated to promoting sustainability and protecting the planet.

To study the Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway you will need to have 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above.

The Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway will take you 2 years to complete. You will attend college for 4 days per week at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

The Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway is free, if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

The Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway is assessed through a mix of examinations and coursework. Each one of the 3 A Levels that form the Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway is assessed individually:

  • A Level Politics: 3 formal examinations
  • A Level Biology: 3 formal examinations
  • A Level Environmental Science: 2 formal examinations (70% of your final grade) and practical coursework assignments (30% of your final grade

Successful completion of the Science and Sustainability A Level Pathway will give you the skills and knowledge to progress on to the next step of your academic journey. You can progress to Higher Education, through a University Level course or an Apprenticeship, or directly into employment in your chosen career.

This pathway opens a wide range of career opportunities, including roles in environmental science, sustainability consulting, government policymaking, and conservation. You could work in environmental advocacy, urban planning, climate change research, and public health. Additionally, there are opportunities in education, international development, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), where you can actively contribute to sustainability, environmental protection, and shaping a greener, more sustainable future.
