If you’ve ever envisioned a fulfilling career making a real difference in young lives, the Education and Early Years T Level is the perfect first step. Designed for passionate individuals, this course equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the childcare industry and shape the future of the next generation.

This T Level qualification is your gateway to a rewarding career, whether you aim to enter skilled employment, pursue higher technical training, or progress to university in the education sector.

Throughout this course, you’ll develop essential skills such as teamwork, observation, and a deep understanding of child development. A minimum 45-day industry placement will provide invaluable hands-on experience, bridging the gap between learning and practice.

This qualification carries a ‘License to Practice’, meaning that you will be qualified as a Level 3 Early Years Educator, enabling you to work unsupervised with children.

What will I do?

Within this qualification there are 2 occupational specialisms, both using theory and practical learning approaches:

  • Early Years Educator
  • Assisting Teaching

During the course, you will cover topics including:

  • Child Development
  • Supporting Children’s Development
  • Importance of Health and Wellbeing for Children
  • How to Support Equality and Promote Diversity
  • How to Work with Families and Professionals
  • How to Support Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

You will also undertake 750 hours of work placement in an Early Years setting (working with children aged 0-8 years) alongside your studies at the College.

To study the Education and Early Years T Level, you will need to have GCSEs at grade 4 or above (old GCSE grade C or above) or equivalent, including a grade 5 in English, Maths and Science.

The Education and Early Years T Level will take you 2 years to complete. You will attend college at our Rochford Campus in Boston.

This T Level course is free if you are under the age of 19 on 31 August of the year you start the course.

The Education and Early Years T Level has a comprehensive assessment structure to ensure that you gain a well-rounded understanding of the field and can demonstrate your expertise.

Core Component Assessment:

  • Written Examination (Paper A): Test your theoretical knowledge and understanding of the core concepts in education and childcare, and demonstrate your ability to apply classroom learning to real-world scenarios
  • Written Examination (Paper B): Showcase your grasp of essential knowledge related to education and childcare, and evaluate your in-depth understanding of the subject matter
  • Employer-set Project: A practical challenge set by industry professionals to test your problem-solving skills, collaboration, and ability to apply your knowledge in a real-world context

Occupational Specialism Component:

  • Synoptic Assignments: Assess your ability to integrate knowledge and skills from various areas of your chosen pathway, and provide a comprehensive view of your capabilities in your specific area of expertise
  • Performance in the Occupational Specialism Component: Reflect your proficiency and readiness to excel in your chosen specialisation within the education and childcare field - this will contribute to your overall T Level qualification

Successful completion of the Education and Early Years T Level, will enable you to have several exciting pathways to explore, depending on your chosen Occupational Specialism. You could enter employment, stepping directly into a rewarding career in education or childcare, working in nurseries, schools, or other early years settings. If you choose to continue your studies, Higher Education offers opportunities to pursue a relevant Degree, further expanding your knowledge and career prospects. Another option is a Degree Apprenticeship, allowing you to gain hands-on experience while earning a qualification.
