Take your first step to a career in F1
Boston College is very excited to bring ‘F1 in Schools’ to the local area. F1 in Schools is a global multi-disciplinary challenge backed by the Formula 1 community, based on teaching students Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) skills in a fun and exciting environment.
Based on the format of the Formula 1 Championships, F1 in Schools is a team event aimed at students aged between 9 – 19 providing them with the opportunity to use CAD/CAM software to design, analyse, manufacture, test and then race miniature compressed air powered cars. Teams from around the country battle it out through regional and national heats, starting in April 2021, with the aim of reaching the world final later in the year. Previous finals have taken place in Abu Dhabi alongside the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix, with the 2020 final taking place in Melbourne alongside the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in March 2021.
The College is already working with a number of local secondary schools to arrange workshops, so that potential teams can be formed to take part in this fantastic challenge. As well as offering support and advice throughout the competition from Automotive Engineering, Motor Sport and Engineering staff and students, the College will also be available to manufacture the cars in their Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology (EMAT) Centre, and organise test run sessions to make sure that all of the teams are ready for their heats.

We know that there are is a huge talent pool of young people in the area and this is our chance to raise their aspirations and open their minds to future opportunities. We are also very grateful to East Coast Skills Fund for their support with this project which has enabled us to buy additional resources and engage with these schools”
