Boston College’s Contribution to AoC’s ‘Missions Accepted’ Report
Boston College is delighted to announce our contribution to the Association of Colleges’ (AoC) ‘Missions Accepted: The Role of Colleges across the Government’s Five Missions’ report!
The Government’s five key missions set an ambitious roadmap for the future, and colleges across the UK are playing a vital role in
achieving these objectives. Boston College is proud to feature in Mission Three: Take Back Our Streets for the impactful collaboration with Lincolnshire Police, which has been fostering community safety and transparency since 2019.
Through this pioneering partnership, Uniformed Public Services students have been participating in stop-and-search review panels, providing vital feedback on real cases. This initiative not only enhances police-public relations but also empowers students with hands-on experience in law enforcement, critical thinking, and the importance of civil rights.
To date, over 300 students have engaged in this initiative, and the programme is now expanding to include A Level and Access to Higher Education students. By building trust and transparency, the partnership has strengthened relationships between the police and local residents, particularly younger and more diverse communities. This model is now being rolled out nationally, setting a benchmark for collaborative policing practices across the UK.
The relationship continues to grow with new projects like Operation Plotting, an initiative aimed at reducing crime and tackling anti-social behaviour in the local area. Boston College is excited to support this programme and contribute to positive change in our community.
Adam Wardell, Boston College Director of Learning for Health and Care Industries, said: “We are incredibly proud to have our partnership with Lincolnshire Police recognised in the AoC report for its role in the ‘Take Back Our Streets’ mission. Since 2019, our students have actively contributed to improving police-public relations and community safety by participating in stop-and-search review panels. This initiative not only empowers students with real-world insights into law enforcement and civil rights but also strengthens trust and accountability within our local communities.”
